Snowflakes and Owls – Prep Puggles conveying Winter
Moderation Day
During the student free day, our staff shared examples of students’ reading skills and discussed how that related to the Australian Curriculum Achievement Standards. This process supports teachers in ensuring their ratings as consistent and fair. This is the first year we have moderated reading. Other years have had focusses on Maths or writing, Science or HASS. Reading is more complex to moderate, and we need a portfolio of various data sets to do so. Our Music and Art teachers also were involved in a moderation process with other teachers of their subject.
The other parts of the day were spent learning more about the teaching of reading and its relation to writing and oral language. Staff also spent time preparing for reports and Evidences of Learning.

Reporting to Parents – Term 2
At the end of this week, parents will receive Evidences of Learning (EoL) for your children. These are tasks the students have undertaken and been given a rating on a 5-point scale, for that particular task. You will receive an EoL for English, Maths and either Science or HASS. Some classes have focused on Oral Language and that EoL will go out on Seesaw. Students in years 3-6 will also receive their Music EoL.
Face-to-Face Parent/Teacher conversations will be held in Week 9, from the 23rd June. An online booking platform has already opened and please make a time to talk to your child’s teacher. You will be given your child’s report at the meeting.
The report, from Years 1-6 (Prep only receive a report at the end of the year), has ratings on a 9-point scale for English, Maths and Science. These ratings relate to all the learning and assessments students have so far this year. EoL ratings may differ from the overall rating for each subject. If you do not attend a meeting your child’s report will be sent home at the end of term.
If you have any questions about reporting, please talk to your child’s teachers or me.
Inter-School Cross Country –
It was a cold but clear day for the inter-school cross country last week. The students participated with enthusiasm and determination. Well done to all.

Kinder Pears
In Term 2 the Kinder Pears have been learning all about different Australian Animals. We graphed our favourite animals and explained why they’re our favourite.
Myra- My favourite Australian animal is the Rainbow Lorikeet because they are colourful.
Zoeya- My favourite Australian animal is the Koala because the joeys are so cute.
Beatrix- My favourite is the Blue Tongue Lizard because they have a blue tongue and when they poke it out, the animal that is trying to hurt them runs away because they think that it is poisonous.
Farrah- My favourite Australian animal is the Koala because they climb trees and put the baby on their back.
Gokalp- My favourite Australian animal is the Blue Tongue Lizard because it reminds me of an Iguana.
Matilda- My favourite Australian animal is the Echidna. It is a great animal because it digs underground to protect itself from fire.
Jo- My favourite Australian animal is the Echidna because they have eyes.
Theo- My favourite Australian animal is the Black Cockatoo because my favourite colour is black.
Shaheer- My favourite Australian animal is the Echidna because it is spikey.

Grade 2BA
The students in Grade 2 Orcas were asked to choose a piece of work that they wanted to share in this issue of the school newsletter. Each student wrote why they were proud of the work they were sharing.

Grade 3/4B
Goals for Term 2
Grade 3/4 students have been working on their goals for Term 2. Each student thought about a goal in English, Maths and Wellbeing that is important for their learning and is achievable. Each student wrote the steps needed to achieve that goal. We will reflect on our goals at the end of Term 2.

Flags
Students have been designing and labelling a new flag for Australia. Some students chose to use the computer to design their flag, which was very challenging but enabled students to learn new skills.

It is a Department of Education requirement that all medications to be taken by students during the school day are to be passed into the office or teacher in charge of an excursion or camp. The medications require a signed doctor/pharmacist as well as parent permission form (these forms are available in the Forms and Documents panel in the newsletter or at the office). The medication is also to be in the original packaging so that staff know what they are administering. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
Medical Action Plans
Every child at Albuera Street Primary with a medical condition needs to supply an updated medical plan to the school each year, especially those with Anaphylaxis and Asthma. Staff from Albuera have been trained in Anaphylaxis using EpiPens and also in Ventolin administration for Asthma. If you are new to the school and your child has a medical condition please come into the office and collect an appropriate action plan form, or if you just have questions please don’t hesitate to phone the school.
