Principals Report
Southern Yard
Thank you for your patience, we now have a resurfaced southern playground for students to enjoy. It took longer than planned because there were areas that needed fixing and then the weather prolonged the drying and laying of the surfaces. The students are enjoying the upgraded space.
Chinese Language Competition
Students will receive their participation certificates in Assembly on the 5th July. Any student who achieved an award will receive those too.
NAIDOC Week
Our school will focus on NAIDOC this week with activities in their classrooms and some sharing at assembly on Friday.
Parent Teachers and Reports -
Thank you to the parents who came to have a conversation with their child’s teacher last week. It is important to take up the opportunity to discuss how your child his going in their academic and social learning. Anyone who could not make it to a teacher conversation will receive their child’s report on Friday. Teachers are always available to have a conversation about their students so don’t hesitate to make a time to come in and have a chat.
Parent Tip –
Wishing everyone a safe and enjoyable break.
See you back at school on Monday 22nd July.

World Café
A few students are involved in a gifted online course called ACTion Pact. In ACTion Pact we had to run something called a World Café. A World Café is way to brainstorm lots of ideas about a topic. The topic we were working on was bullying. We did the World Café with 5/6S. We put a question on a big sheet of paper on each table. Students rotated around the tables and added ideas to the question. It was a success. We got lots of ideas about how to stop bullying. The questions were:
- Where is bullying the biggest problem?
- Why is bullying such a problem?
- How can we make students happier, so they don’t bully?
- What motivates people to bully?
- Does education at school impact bullying?
- How can support the people who are being bullied more?

Grade 5/6JD
In 5/6DJ we have been looking at the structural adaptations of animals and how physical characteristics allow animals to adapt better to their environment. The students are currently working on their own poster to show these characteristics which help them to survive, hunt, hide or defend themselves in their natural habitats. These are works in progress, but we wanted to share with you what has been achieved so far.
To celebrate the start of winter we would also like to share some of our shape poetry about the things we love about this time of year.
Premier’s Reading Challenge
The Premier’s Reading Challenge starts this week. Please encourage your child/ren to take part. The challenge is to read 10 books in 10 weeks (age appropriate) or they could make up their own reading challenge. It might be as simple as reading for ten minutes everyday!

The canteen will not start next term without help. If you can assist, please contact the office or me directly on 0417 559 920. Grandparent or other family members are most welcome.
All volunteers are required to have Working with Vulnerable People clearance and have watched the Mandatory Reporting video (seriously it only takes 15 minutes).
I would like to thank those people who have helped this term. Your input is most appreciated. This is especially true for Jane Chen whose constant assistance has been invaluable.

Student Medications
It is a Department of Education requirement that all medications to be taken by students during the school day are to be passed into the office or teacher in charge of an excursion or camp. The medications require a signed doctor/pharmacist as well as parent permission form (these forms are available in the Forms and Documents panel in the newsletter or at the office). The medication is also to be in the original packaging so that staff know what they are administering. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
Medical Action Plans
Every child at Albuera Street Primary with a medical condition needs to supply an updated medical plan to the school each year, especially those with Anaphylaxis and Asthma. Staff from Albuera have been trained in Anaphylaxis using EpiPens and also in Ventolin administration for Asthma. If you are new to the school and your child has a medical condition please come into the office and collect an appropriate action plan form, or if you just have questions please don’t hesitate to phone the school.
